Although 2013 has already seen the release of several creepy thrillers, upcoming movies in 2013 will prove to be equally creepy, or even creepier, if that’s possible. Keep reading below to find a list of the scariest movies featuring a menagerie of evil spirits, ghosts and zombies of course.
This major film empire has already released its fair share of horror, and 2013 looks to be the year that the franchise will continue to evolve. Evil Dead, directed by Fede Alvarez, is set for released in April 2013. The film focuses on a troubled young woman, Mia (Jane Levy). Mia is struggling with many personal demons including sobriety. In order to deal with her emotions, she agrees to take a trip with her brother and a group of friends. They travel to a remote cabin where they awaken a demonic force that changes their lives forever. As with other Evil Dead films, this one is sure to be eerily real leaving you to think twice about your next cabin retreat.
Also scheduled for release in April 2013 is The Lords of Salem. Written and directed by Rob Zombie this film features a young DJ, Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie). Heidi is living an ordinary life until she receives a strange record. Curiosity leads Heidi to play the record, which seems to only contain strange sounds. However, the sounds have a profound effect on Heidi who doesn’t understand what is happening to her. Although records do not seem as terrifying as more obvious forms of horror (knives, guns, blood and guts), Zombie is a master at blood curdling beats. Expect a twisted ride.
Could another zombie movie really capture movie goer’s attention? Warm Bodies is written and directed by Jonathan Levine. In this film, zombies roam the Earth after a zombie apocalypse. However, a human, Julie (Teresa Palmer), has beat the odds and managed to survive. Fearful of being turned into a zombie herself, Julie does what she has to do to fit in. A chance encounter between Julie and a zombie, R (Nicholas Hoult), changes her mind about the undead. With R’s help, Julie struggles to survive in a horrific world full of zombies. Viewers will see a different side of zombie life, like Walking Dead meets Twilight Saga.
Among Friends, directed by Halloween scream queen Danielle Harris, is also due out in 2013. Set in the 1980s, a group of friends has gathered for what they think is a murder mystery party. However, unbeknownst to the others, one guest has taken the party theme literally. Friend after friend disappears. The guests begin to turn on each other. Secrets are revealed. The only hope any of the guests have of leaving the party alive is to find out who or what is picking them off. This movie has the potential to pull at the emotional strings of those who have played murder mystery games in real life, adding a new type of creepiness to the next Halloween party or dinner show.
